Articles — dangerous goods classification
Manufactured articles containing dangerous goods (lighters, cartridges, fire extinguishers, magnets) are classified on what they contain or emit, not what they do.
The mistake this category generates
Magnetised material is a dangerous good by air only, judged on the field strength measured at 4.6 m from the package.

Shipper notes
UN1057 Lighters or Lighter refills
- Forbidden on both passenger and cargo aircraft as cargo. Passengers may carry one lighter on their person under a separate provision — that is not a cargo acceptance.
- Lighters must meet the ISO 9994 test requirements before offer for transport.
UN2037 Receptacles, small, containing gas
- The division follows the gas inside: CO2 and nitrogen cartridges are 2.2, butane and propane cartridges are 2.1 and carry the flammable gas label instead.
UN1044 Fire extinguishers
- Charged with compressed or liquefied gas; must be protected against discharge in transit.
UN2807 Magnetized material
- An air-only classification. A package is magnetized material if it produces a field of more than 0.418 A/m (0.00525 gauss) at 4.6 m from any point on its surface, or deflects an aircraft compass by more than 2 degrees at 2.1 m.
- Not regulated by road, rail or sea — this is the classic case of a product that is a dangerous good for one mode only.
UN3363 Dangerous goods in machinery or Dangerous goods in apparatus
- Only usable within the small quantity thresholds in special provision 136.
UN1944 Matches, safety
- Forbidden in cargo by air. A passenger may carry one small packet on their person.
UN0012 Cartridges for weapons, inert projectile or Cartridges, small arms
- Division 1.4S is the only explosives division routinely accepted in ordinary parcel networks, and then only under a carrier-specific programme.
- Requires an EX approval or a competent authority classification before offer for transport.
UN3268 Safety devices, electrically initiated
- Airbag modules and seat-belt pretensioners classified to this entry rather than to Class 1 when they meet the criteria in special provision 160.

Which of these entries applies depends on the formulation, not the category. Send the product and Classify7 returns the entry with the evidence that selected it — or tells you which measurement it needs first.
